Cartoon Production Information:
This series from Universal Pictures imitated the "Screen Songs" series of follow-the-bouncing-ball shorts released by the by-then-defunct Fleischer Studios. Universal hired former director Dave Fleischer to be the animation supervisor.
As with the "Screen Songs," lyrics appeared on screen for this series of audience-participation sing-a-long shorts. Unlike the "Screen Songs," there was no bouncing ball.
The singing group The King's Men are featured.
Songs: Lil Liza Jane, Carry Me Back to Old Virginny and Oh, Dem Golden Slippers.
The connecting device features voices of "end men" in a Minstrel show riffing on the old line, originated in Minstrel shows, "Why did the chicken cross the road."
