Cartoon Production Information:
In 1997, UPN gave Film Roman Productions the go-ahead to produce an animated version of the Blues Brothers and ordered 13 episodes of the series. Film Roman had optioned the rights to the series as part of a plan to produce proprietary programming.
That fall, two months after David Pritchard was appointed as UPN's new president and CEO, the network canceled its order. Eight episodes already had been produced.
However, the series was screened at MIPCOM in Cannes, where it was one of the more popular cartoons shown.
Elwood and Jake were voiced by Peter Aykroyd and James Belushi, the actual brothers of the original Blues Brothers, Dan Aykroyd and the late John Belushi. Dan Aykroyd and Judy Belushi (John Belushi's widow) served as creative consultants.
A number of the cast members and guest voice actors, including James Belushi, Shelley Berman, Laraine Newman and Don Novello, were alumni of NBC's "Saturday Night Live" TV series, where the characters of the Blues Brothers were introduced.
