Cartoon Production Information:

Actual comedians provided the voices for all their animated equivalents- except for W.C. Fields, Chico Marx, Harpo Marx (those three being dead when the cartoon was produced!) and Zeppo Marx (who retired from show business in 1933); Paul Frees provided their voices.

This marked the only time that cartoonist Bruce Stark worked on a Rankin/Bass project.

This was also George Burns' first appearance in an animated special.

The highest-rated TV special produced by Rankin/Bass, according to producer-director Arthur Rankin, Jr. (He believes the reason is that the 1970 Academy Awards presentation came immediately afterward.)

Caricatured "celebrities," including Popeye, Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis, Frankenstein and Frank Sinatra, sit in the audience during and between each comedian's five-minute segment on a vaudeville-type stage.

Songs include "He Won't Catch Me" (The Smothers Brothers).

Characters in the "Napoleon Scene": Napoleon (Groucho), François (Chico), Alphonse (Zeppo), Gaston (Harpo), Josephine. Although uncredited himself as a writer, Groucho himself may have provided the script for this scene.

Traditional, Hand-drawn Animation.
