Tennessee Ernie Ford was not the first choice for narrator-singer. A promotional poster for the special credits Bing Crosby as the narrator, although producer-director Arthur Rankin, Jr. doesn't remember this: "It may have been that we thought we had Crosby at the time and we didn't. Then we signed Tennessee Ernie Ford, who was very popular."
