Cartoon Production Information:

Remade in 1955 as Good Will to Men.

The first MGM cartoon to be nominated for an Academy Award.

The first short subject to receive a Parents Magazine Medal.

The only cartoon ever nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize.

Recognizing its value, MGM gave the cartoon special promotional treatment.

In a 1973 interview, director Hugh Harman commented: "They tried to stop me from making it- it was too serious. We shouldn't have made it as a one-reeler, we should have made it about three to five reels."

Even over 60 years after its making this cartoon is more timeless then ever. With all the talk these days of weapons of mass destruction, seeing the images of the final two gas-masked combatants is even more haunting. Hopefully MGM will get their act...  (read more)
