Cartoon Production Information:

Universal released the Lon Chaney version of “Phantom of the Opera” as a silent film in 1925 then added sound to it for a 1929 release of the same production. Here just about one year later the Phantom meets Oswald. He is introduced in several eerie scenes which bring him to the door of the Opera House where Oswald seems to be producing an Opera. As the band plays the overture Mickey Mouse can be seen in the orchestra. He will be seen again later. There are several chases and an unmasking scene where Lantz and company have created a cartoon version of Chaney's makeup. The ending, however, is strangely weak. After being chased and caught by the Phantom, Oswald has to solve a riddle. When he does the film ends.

Traditional, Hand-drawn Animation.
