The production used 35 hand-sculpted dolls. The "kinemins" were billed as "lifelike little people so truly real, they laugh, they sing, they walk, they dance... they almost breathe!"

The likeness of comedic opera diva Anna Russell was used for The Witch.

Many famous puppeteers worked on this movie, including Don Sahlin, Kermit Love, Sky Highchief, Jim Gamble and Teddy Shepard.

Release date is that of New York City premiere; general release was December 24, 1954.

Songs include "Children's Prayer," Music by Engelbert Humperdinck, English Lyrics by Padraic Colum, Sung by Constance Brigham (as both Hansel and Gretel).
