Cartoon Production Information:

With the exception of a few early drawings, "The Renter" was an all-digital paperless production. The storyboards, layouts and character animation were drawn in Flash using a tablet. The backgrounds were painted by hand in Photoshop. Compositing and final color correction was done in After Effects.

This is director Jason Carpenter's first film.

"The Renter" is based on Carpenter's experiences at Jesse Eldridge's house as a small child. Eldridge was an elderly woman who ran a daycare in her house in Greensboro, North Carolina. She was affectionately referred to as "Mommy Eldridge" by her many "children." Mommy Eldridge cared for Jason Carpenter and his brother Michael during the summers and after pre-school. She lived in a old, white house on a few acres of fading land. To make extra money, she usually rented a room downstairs to men who worked at the factory nearby.
