Classic Felix 8 out of 5 stars

Best 88 cents I ever spent on a DVD - Felix the Cat - 8 episodes, all silents from 1923 to 1930 which was the heyday of this iconic cat.
Felix Gets the Can is chock full of the visual gags that made Felix famous. When question marks emanate from Felix (so we know he's wondering), he tplucks them from the air and makes skis of them. In an oft-repeated Felix trick, four lively hot-dogs becomes a dog sled team. And Felix is on his way.
Unlike the sixties Felix which is more for kids, this roaring twenties kitty doesn't need a magic bag. He simply takes off his tail and it becomes a telescope.
These simple Felix cartoons at the dawn of animation stay fresh even in the age of computer animation.

Felix Goes Dutch 6 out of 5 stars

Simple fun

Simple, but full of the classic Felix visual gags. In this episode Felix manages to get to Holland which is a recurring backdrop of windmills and tulips of course. He wastes no time annoying ithe decent Dutch folks in their balloonish pants and wooden shoes.
In exchange for a drink of milk he agrees to water the tulips. One can't be sure whether he waters them with gin (more Dutchness here!) accidentally or on purpose.
Watch him use his verastile tail to outfox his hapless pursuer.
A classic Felix silent.

Felix Goes to Russia 6 out of 5 stars

Reviewed by: prairiegirl, September 20, 2006

Classic silent Felix. How can a little blob of black ink with eyes portray so much character? Narrowed gaze and pacing with hands behind the back is the classic Felix posture as he fgures out his next angle. Yu always want him to succeed!
In this short flick Felix is kicked soundly by a horse and after a lengthy trajectory over waves lands as a bomb in Russia. That gives old Ivan a momentary scare since the Russian Revolution is getting underway. Felix gets accused of being a spy, shot at and eventually bombed back to where he started from, no worse for wear except to re-unite himself with his detached tail.
Think about the fact that the real Russian Revolution (let's call it 1917) actually only occurred a few years prior to this vintage cartoon!
