The Sunshine Makers 10 out of 5 stars

This is a wonderful cartoon! Some things left out of the synopsis: sunshine is bottled in milk bottles AND the cartoon was commissioned by a major dairy corporation. That commercialism doesn't hurt a bit. Favorite part: when the happy dwarf prepares to pour a bottle of sunshine down an Unhappy Creature's gullet and the U.C. resists. "I don't want to be happy! I want to be sad!" But the medication is forced down his throat and he rises with a smile and clicks his heels. The cartoon used to be shown on the original Mickey Mouse Club ("meeska, mooska, mouseketeer! Mouse cartoon time now is here!") in black and white. The color print I've seen was faded in one or two spots, particularly in the segment when the dwarf lookouts (in flower towers) are scanning for enemy airplanes. I would love to see a good copy. It used to be on a Blackhawk(?)video called "Cartoon Classics of the 30s and 40s" that included the first Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck cartoons, an Ub Iwerks classic "The Pincushion Man", and two Felix cartoons. I'd love to have that tape now!
