Good production

Reviewed by: alecpele, December 07, 2003

This is a good production by Disney, which includes all the features that typical Disney productions do. The characters are all superb and the animation is great, as expected. The music is -once again- delightful. Phill Collins seems to be doing a great job for cartoon soundtracks (having in mind his previous work with Disney, in 'Hercules' and 'Tarzan'). The story is pretty interesting, even though it reaches some 'dangerous' concepts of life after death. Some scenes can be considered as a little violent for a cartoon movie. This production can be described as a 'children movie for adults'.

A extreme adoption...

Reviewed by: alecpele, November 27, 2003

Even though a popular classic was chosen for creating a cartoon movie ('Treasure Island', by Robert Louis Stevenson) the result was a little disappointing, mainly because of the extreme space setting used. The original story took place at the 18th century and was a typical pirate story, having the least to do with light-speed spacecrafts. In this way the potential advantage of a great scenario disappeared. The overall concept of a space-pirate tale fails to persuade even the younger watchers, while the slogan: 'It's only a cartoon' doesn't seem to apply at this case.
On the other hand a couple of good features appeared. The character design and animation were wonderful. The scene with the explosion in the end is very impressive as well as all the sky-skateboarding scenes. Finally the soundtracks of the movie were delightful.

Great cartoon movie

Reviewed by: alecpele, November 21, 2003

This is a great production by 'Fox Animation Studios' and hopefully similar ones shall follow. The animation is excellent and all the characters are well designed. I especially liked the scenery, which changes while the story carries on, yet it always is impressive. The story is good and manages to couple all the characters with the saving of the human baby. The music -though- is not the expected one. Some good soundtracks could make this cartoon movie a brilliant production.
