The music and words to "Brotherly Love" were the springboard as background music for Popeye cartoons for the next few years. Popeye would be walking and "skatting" the music in several cartoons, like in "Little Sweepee" and the "Weakerist". The Brotherly Love cartoon contributed to the transformation of Popeye as a nice guy, a champion for women's rights, and using the irony of physical force to enforce brotherly love with other rough necks. It was done with tongue-in-cheek humor.
