The final statement

Not the greatest Road Runner cartoon ever, but as Chuck Jones' final statement on the RR/C conflict, you could do far worse. Echoes of other RR cartoons abound, as when the Coyote kicks away the unworkable cactus costume in a manner similar to the way he disposed of the uncooperative jackhammer in an earlier cartoon. Goodbye, Wile E.--we hardly knew ye!

Irony abounds!

The RR/C gags are as superb as ever. What brings this cartoon down is its "score," the very same canned music that Chuck Jones himself was decrying when it was applied to Hanna-Barbera's assembly-line TV animation that was being cobbled together at approximately the same time as this cartoon's release. Truly, the end of a cartoon era is in sight.

Amazing to find such aantasitic Road Runner cartoon at this late date. In the entire series, you'll rarely find as sustained a set-piece as the Coyote dealing with the earthquake pills that he himself tried to set off as a catalyst. Gotta love that extended tymphoni [sp?] as the Coyote downs the entire bottle of pills. Splendid!
