Speed Demon 10 out of 5 stars

My favourite Powerpuff Girls episode. This was when the show was beginning to use computer graphics more substantially, and when they flew past the speed of light I marveled at the CGI used. The direction is amazing. It's one of the best I've ever seen for a cartoon. An example is when the mutated Townsville citizens surround the girls chanting "You did this..you did this..." The plot is well done and crafted, although the ending is criticised for being too easy- The girls just fly back 50 years in time to the present, just like that. My theory is they all realised how they got there in the first place, so did it again in the opposite direction. There are clever hints along the way that you have to watch twice to get- the idea that the main baddie, 'Him' has become immortal and taken over the WORLD (He can withstand all of the Powerpuff's attacks), and that he killed the mayor in the PPG's absence. (The whole scene with Miss Bellum). The animators and the voice artists puts lots of work into this, and it really does show. It is a very, very chilling episode. I recommend this dark horror right away.

Just An Old Fashioned Lab Song... 8 out of 5 stars

Reviewed by: BillyH, September 11, 2002

'Just An Old Fashioned Lab Song' is a great episode. Dexter's parents have signed Dexter up for Piano lessons. The teacher arrives (Andy Williams) And tries to teach him a simple tune with only 8 key presses, but Dexter just can't get it right. Discovering the secret lab (Since he's the same size as Dexter, the computer unwittingly let him in) the teacher is delighted at the music that the scientific lab instruments are 'making’. It's the tune that Dexter was trying to play. A piano comes out of nowhere, and Dexter and the Teacher jam to an 'Old fashioned lab song'. It's so cheesy, it's good.

I really like Musical Memories. It's a heart-warming tale of Love through the ages that manages to fit in some Fleischer humour in as well. The 3d effects are overwhelming. I have only seen the redrawn Popeye cartoons so this was my first experience to the wonders of the Stereopticon turntable. I recommend this cartoon, especially for the elderly who can reminisce with the period backdrops and music.
