An Old Plot Done with Panache 4 out of 5 stars

Reviewed by: JimH, June 27, 2011

"You broke my fiddle!" This is the old roughneck father can't understand his artistic son plot done with panache. A boxing kangaroo father wants his son Elmer to follow him in his career, but the kid wants to be a concert violinist. So Dad forces things by enrolling Elmer in the Golden Gloves but telling him its a concert. So we get Elmer in the ring fiddling "Those Endearing Young Charms" while an opponent three times his size swinging away but unable to punch low enough to hit the kid. But when Elmer does get hit and his violin is broken, he becomes a dynamo and makes short work of his opponent (with a little help from Mom). The gags come fast and furious from beginning to end, making this toon a winner for me.
