I was forced to watch an hour of this abomination and vowed right then and there "Never Again"! The story plods along too slow. Pocahontas' voice actor is terrible. And the ultra-sucky romance may have "warmed Disney fans hearts" but it rattled my intestines.
But the part that really bugged me was this: The movie starts out with the Indians speaking English but in a way that you could tell they were actually speaking their Native language (just like the first part of Roots). So, Pocahontus meets John Smith and of course doesn't know a word of English. In that vein, John teaches her one word "friend". That's all fine, but 2 minutes later they're both holding a fine English conversation like she'd been speaking English all her life, and in another 2 minutes she's singing a tree-hugging, suck-fest of a song also in English!!
Did they think we'd be too stupid to notice? Or was it they who were to stupid to notice this glaring mistake?
Only see this film if you're easily manipulated by the sucky Disney formula and don't know or don't care what makes a good film. Otherwise, avoid at all costs.

Although this Disney production, had all the usual characteristics a successful Disney production has, it still had an important drawback. The story was predictable all the way and the end of the story was sudden and disappointing. What is memorable of this movie is its soundtracks and specifically the Academy Award Winner as Best Song and Golden Globe Award Winner as Best Original Song (Motion Picture) 'Colors of the Wind', which is one of the very best I've ever heard in a Disney production. The Disney's DVD release includes a special feature, which presents this song performed in a dozen of different languages and it is pretty impressive.
