Katastrophe 6 out of 5 stars

Dark Kat and Dr. Viper find themselves at odds with one other, when they both attempt to steal a rare chemical from Megakat Biochemical Labs. naturally, the SWAT Kats arrive on the scene and defeat them, but blowing up the labs in the process, which gets them into trouble with Commander Feral (who thinks they blew the building up for reason, refusing to buy the involvement of the two supervillains). Things get worse when Dark Kat proposes to Viper that they team up to fight the SWAT Kats together. To this end, they also recruit the Metallikats to help them, and the villains katnap Callie and Mayor Manx to hold as hostages until the SWAT Kats give themselves up. The fate of all Megakat City, and of Callie and Manx, hangs in the delicate balance! While not as deserving of all the credit it is given, "Katastrophe" is still a superb episode, and for a number of reasons. Obviously, first there's the third (and possibly the best) villain teamup in the show. Halfway through the episode, the SWAT Kats lose their jet - leaving them to battle the villains with just their wits. But possibly the best part is when they are captured, and Feral actually saves them! Another added bonus is the inclusion of Dr. Viper's ravenous mushroom monster sidekick, who was an absoloute riot - the opening scene of it "disposing" of two idiot security guards is classic. Problems with the episode are few, but noticeable, mostly dialogue flubs (Dark Kat reveals his intentions to betray his comrades all too quickly, for example). The violence toll is also down low - the only characters to die are the aforementioned guards - so, if you're a fan of the show, and have not yet seen "Katastrophe", the do so now!
