The Crown Jewel Caper

Rich content but poorly done
Who stole the crown jewels from the museum? Wam, bam, we're in a jam. Catchy phrase for Stanley Chan.
Keye Luke stands as the first oriental performer to portray Charlie Chan, and Robert Ito would go on to appear on Quincy. Ito did the voice of eldest son Henry.
In this episode, Henry and Stanley do a good comedy duo bit.
Over-zealous detective son Flip was always outstanding too.
Right from the start I was never sure if the pet, Chu Chu, was supposed to be a dog or a cat, as the youngest daughter told the museum guy it was a cat when he said no dogs allowed.
The cliches on the kids (one obese, one bossy, one tomboy, one beautiful, one brain and so on) were solid, but very little ever came of their characterizations in the time alotted.
Still, a cartoon about such characters in the early seventies is definitely ground-breaking.
Listen for the Boris Karloff and Peter Lorre sound-alikes as well.
This story appeared in the first comic book adaptaion from Gold Key in 1972, cover priced fifteen cents.
