Underrated gem

By
For atmosphere and mood, alone, this film is a gem. Visually stunning, this is true eye-candy, with gorgeous backgrounds and superb animation. The scenery and music perfectly evokes a dreamy and haunting mood, and minimal dialogue enhances this effect. The plot, although relatively simple, is fun & enjoyable. Great care was taken to create memorable characters, and the two ghosts have stuck with me since childhood, even though this was their only cartoon. This is unfortunate, as they were probably the two finest cartoon ghosts ever. And don't even mention Casper, because the little ghost obviously served as a blueprint for him, although Casper was nowhere near as adorable. Overall, this is an underrated gem, and definately worth viewing if your a fan of early 40's Chuck Jones .
