One of a Kind Cartoon
This was such a winner of the ABC Saturday Superstar movies. No idea why characters started meeting each other back then, but they were loads of fun. Who would have guessed Blondie and Dagwood Bumstead lived next door to Hi and Lois Flagston?
Loweezy Smith from Snuffy Smith had an outstanding moment when Snuffy objected to his whiskey bottle being used to summon help.
And Bluto, as the mad scientist's assistant, is strangely reminiscent of Homer Simpson.
Olive Oyl's dance is hilarious when the Katzenjammer Kids throw the telescope over her and of course, it fits.
But the final encounter as the mad man tries to scare the kids, Hans, Fritz, Little Iodine and the other fellow whoever he was, from the kitchen where they had gone to make a Dagwood sandwich (which they did).
Grimsby screams at the kids, and they scream back. It became a contest of making faces and finally, after having a hand mirror shoved in his face, Grimsby bursts out laughing.
The sandwich? It fell through the floor and barely missed the Phantom, Steve Canyon and Mandrake the Magician.
Even still, the adventure wasn't over. When the cruise ship sank, Popeye had a choice; either save his spinach or Olive Oyl's wardrobe. Guess which one she made him choose.
Truly a rich, one-of-a-kind cartoon.
All star cast equals all stars for this one.
