Thank-you thank-you thank-you to this website for giving reality to this vaguest of memories I've carried from the age of 6. I remember a talking white? rock and something falling down a large hole in the ground, the word "DIG", and being transfixed by the story (but no memories of the actual story, just that it had something to do with fossils, rocks and palaeontology). I have been wondering if this was just a dream or whether it was a real cartoon I'd seen as a child. Now here's the answer. Sure wish I could see it again. I think it helped spawn my interest in rocks, geology, palaeontology and science in general; now I live and work as a scientist. Thanks so much!!

So...there is someone else out there who remembers this animation! I can't remember anything about the cartoon except that the boy and his dog were being led down a large hole by a talking rock and the music (what ever it was) made enough of an impression on me it has been on my mind for over thirty five years. I liked the music and the art and I've been interested in geology since. Sure wish I could watch it again. We need more animations like it now in place of some of the current cartoon network nonsense. The sense of adventure stayed on my mind for years.

I thought the Dog Went With Him!
this thing aired, apparently in place of the Monkees, so it seems.
I remember it airing, and knew it wasn't supposed to be there. A boy and his dog met talking rocks, about four of them.
I suppose they were different minerals and all.
The main one was called Rocko, a simple rock. The other three were different in personality. The only one I recall was the giddy excited female character, she would have a peppy song.
Don't recall songs for the other two.
And our hero? And his dog? they would leave finally, make their way back to the surface and he would take his friend, Rocko, with him.
Every now and then I wonder about some shows and what they were all about. And this is one of them.
It was nice to just see something different tho.
