The Goddess Of Spring

Flawed but still beautiful

This short is often discussed because it was one of the first times that the Disney animators attempted to draw realistic human characters. Did they succeed? Well...yes and no. The Goddess' dance in the beginning of the short is as rubbery as any Iwerks cartoon of the late 20's. However, as the short continues and we are introduced to Hades, the human figure animation improves dramatically. The short is a litte too uneven to be considered a complete success. The opening segment is cloying, with cute animals and a trite melody. Once we are in the Underworld, though, the film takes on a much darker tone and becomes much more interesting. Give it a viewing and see what you think. It is available on the dvd of SNOW WHITE.
