"The Gallopin' Gaucho" is great farce mellodrama! It moves along at a fast pace and feels like not a single frame was wasted. This is about as "cartooney" as it gets too, from Mickey startching his drunk ostritch so he's able to ride him, to threading Pete's belly button with his foil, right on through to the gags with Mickeys tail (as a winch to hoist himself and both his and Minnie's used as shock absorbers while riding off into the sunset). We get Mickey smoking, quaffing a beer and giving the raspberry (with ornery intent, not just playful). And what other cartoon has Mickey and Pete naked? This cartoon has gusto and a raw sense of action that isn't often associated with Mickey. Highly recommended!
