The SPCA ought to hang Tom's master by his heels! Dragging poor Tom out of the pool and tying him up-- there was no reason for him to do that. I'm glad Tom is taken away by the car. He's away from the master and away from the schadenfruede-ing mouse.
Gene Deitch's series is aching and bittersweet at the best of times, but that touchingness can be downright disturbing. There's a limit to how much I can take of Jerry sitting back and enjoying the sight of Tom being pounded to an inch of his life. He's got a cruelty in this series he simply didn't have in the older cartoons.
