And they say cartoons can't be educational...
This one was good, because it wasn't the usual supervillian team-up episode. Now, don't get me wrong, I love those, but this one was cool because it was different. It had Catwoman actually leaving clues for Batman and Robin so she could steal the Ruby from the Penguin. She and her gang of "Catmen" actually caught Penguin and his gang of "Birdmen". Perhaps this episode was serving as an eye-opening lesson to the natural order of the food chain? Maybe not... Also a good episode because Batgirl was used very effectively, actually saving both Batman and Robin from certain death, instead of having a damsel in distress plot that was popular in other cartoons at the time. Actually, during the time of the late 60's women empowerment movement, this Batman cartoon series was not only non-sexist, but featured strong, independent women fighting and thinking as well or better than the male counterparts on the show. Take this episode alone, for instance. The Catwoman outsmarted the male Penguin, and BatGIRL (although she was hardly a girl), saved and fought as bravely as Batman and Robin. Wow, pretty heavy for a cartoon aimed at eight-year olds, huh?
