This was the best of the 22 animated Star Trek episodes. It was a candid look at Spock's difficult childhood. It was written by DC Fontana, who wrote many good Spock-oriented episodes for the original ST series, and who later went on to write for other sci-fi and mainstream productions. As with all 22 animated ST's the strengths were the voices by most of the original series actors, the production involvement of Gene Roddenberry, the musical score, the storyboards, and the backgrounds. The weaknesses were the character animation, the sound editing, and the clipped dialogue."
