The first New Trek since 1969 for Some of Us
Listen, Animated Trek ain't perfect, but in the 70's it was all we had besides James Blish's original episode adaptations and crappy Gold Key comics. This episode allows the Trek crew to do somethings that they didn't get a chance to do, like go outside of the Enterprise and crawl around on the outside of a massive alien ship. Yes, the old "non-corporeal entity tied to the ship looks for escape" angle had been played on the original a lot, the fact is this was well executed and not at all padded at 22 minutes.

What JONNY QUEST was to Hanna-Barbera, this animated adptation of Gene Roddenberry's classic SF-TV show was to Flimation---the show that supplied the music for the studio's action-adventure shows. This episode opener is hardly orignial ST---the theme was done before in the Classic Trek episode "Wolf In The Fold" and be repeated again in the Next Gen ep "Evolution." That said, it was way better than anything else on Saturday morning kidvid---worth viewing for Kirk, Spock McCoy and Scotty exploring the alien starship's interior---an awesome cross between comic book artist Jack Kirby and FORBIDDEN PLANET!
