Great film and a tearjerker

By
I saw this movie when I was four or five years old. I really enjoyed it, except of course when Bambi's mom dies. As soon as I heard that gunshot and Bambi calling for his mother, I just bawled my eyes out. Except for that one part, this is a great Disney film.

One Of Disney's Best Films

By
Bambi is the story of a curious deer Bambi. Bambi hangs around with His forest friends; a rabbit named Thumper, a skunk named flower, and all the other animals of the forest. All of the animals are friends, they have no enemies except for one: man. This is a masterpiece, the artwork is superb. The forest is so realistic that it is like it is reaching out to you. The forest fire scene is one of the best scenes. Not only is the artwork good, the music of this movie is amazing. This movie scored Academy Award Nominees for Best Music and Best Sound Recording.Like other Disney movies, the music reflects the mood of the movie. Walt Disney and His talented crew of artists and musicians did an excellent job in this movie.

Disney's first masterpiece.

By
Disney made other films before than some may consider masterpieces, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Fantasia, Pinocchio or Dumbo, but to me, while all those movies have elements of a masterpiece, the animation in Fantasia, or Snow White, the story in Pinocchio, none of them put together everything so well as Bambi does.

Bambi is one of the few Disney films that reminds me of Miyazaki's work. There are quiet moments here that understand the fact that you don't need action or drama to make a scene powerful and moving. The rain dropping on plants was one such moment.

Plot - The story is very well paced at put together, a Lion King of sorts, with young Bambi being born, growing up and playing with friends and meeting his mate. The themes here are a bit more mature then in previous films, as Bambi must face death, a moment that again brings to mind The Lion King. The destruction of the forest by man also reflects one of the few times Disney has a message in a film besides "be yourself" or "you're a mermaid, Aladdin, Belle, etc, longing to go on land, for adventure, etc." For those who would like to investigate this theme with their kids more throughly, Princess Monomoke is recommended.

Characters - Bambi is truly a charming character. As he and the other animals speak, this does not feature the most realistic portrayals of animal behavior, similar to The Lion King, but there are things children will learn about deer from watching this. Bambi and another deer, for example, fight it out in one scene.

Music: This movie doesn't concentrate on needing songs, thankfully, but the music there is adds well to the overall effect.

Animation: The animation here is often vibrant, and stunning. The forest is very beautiful.

This is a film with a bit more serious undertones than most Disney movies, and its a very polished, moving and beautiful film.
