Never Kick A Woman

In A Class By Itself

By
The blonde boxer dominates most of this cartoon, she is definitely Mae West:very sexy with lots of great lines;"take it easy skinny you'll last longer" and "how about it big boy,not bad eh". Her showoff boxing routine is very polished. She polishes Olive off as easily as she steals Popeye. Her boxing match with Olive is detailed including hairdo changing punches and uppercuts that lift Olives heels. After she knocks Olive out, she turns to Popeye-he is smitten. The rest of the cartoon is predictable. Olive finds the spinach and prevails over the blonde and Popeye as well. This is groundbreaking for the era. It is said censors canned future appearances by the blonde. She was too sexy.

Different but just as good

By
Several things to commend this one in the series - the catchy song, Olive's battle with the sexy blonde boxing instructor and Popeye's unexpected attraction to another woman. There was a rumor that the blonde was slated to reappear in more cartoons but the censors nixed the idea. Anyone know anything about that?

Greatest Popeye ever

By
Too bad for the spinach in this case. I could have watched Mae work over Olive all day. She was sexy for a cartoon character. Too bad they did not bring her back for other cartoons. That would have been great if mae took the spinach away from Olive, but that would have been the end of her.
