Adding to the above, Popeye said it all in the byline.

A particularly hilarious Popeye cartoon where Popeye tries to woo Olive with poetry. The premise begins with Olive telling Popeye that he's not romantic enough. So, he starts reciting poetry over the phone. Olive is swept away until Bluto climbs up the phone poll with a phone, hooks it into Olive's line, and pretends to be Popeye reading INSULTING poetry! The two insulting poems are priceless! Bluto: "When it comes to beauty, you're not fair, you're a rag, a bone, and a hank o' hair". Olive's reaction: (screeching) "What!? What did you say!?" Bluto: "I said, you're homely, skinny, and thin. Ya look like somethin' the cat dragged in." And so, Olive goes off on Popeye who she believes to be making the call (Caller I.D. sure would have come in handy back then) until he proves that it's Bluto. Then, a fight ensues on the phone wires with hilariously funny mumbling dialogue and the finale where Bluto is left dangling in the wires like a spider and the whole neighborhood is asking the operator what happened to their line. A true Popeye classic! (All color copies should be destroyed on sight).
