This is an interesting short with a "call to arms" message with the escalated war in Europe already six months old. We begin with a beautiful stereoptical trucking shot down amoung the trees, flowers, grass, and finally to a community of ants all involved in their daily enterprises. Snails funtion as trucks. An ant chef is at a giddle in a storefront. He reaches for a box of "Ant Jermina" pancake flour, and proceeds to make pancakes. While the ants go about their business, the Queen is addressing her soldiers about their greatest enemy, the Anteater. She sings them a fight song, "Make him yell, uncle." Soon the Anteater appears, and a sentry allerts the village. The Anteater sticks his long nose down inside the ant hill, where the ants clamp it down and pour pepper, salt, mustard, and vinegar into his nose. This really heats his nose up, as he runs off with his nose looking like the stripes on a rotating barber pole. Next the Queen leads her arm against the Anteater, shooting little thorns at him. This does little to stop the Anteater, as he reaches into his pocket, porducing eyedropper, and sucks them all up individually, and places them in a small bottle-- Queen and all. The Anteater then spreads the ants on buttered bread, making a sandwitch. Just as the ants seem over powered, one of the soldiers sends an "SOS" signal from his antenea to the "Sewer Side Squad" who all run through the Anteater's clothes, sticking with their thorn-like swords until he is overcome, and yells, "Uncle, uncle!" The Queen and her troops march back triumphantly in a compositon reminiscent of the "Four Freedoms" painting of the Revolutionary War. A highly entertaining cartoon that stands out among those from this period.
