Not that it was the worst Disney film of recent times, though IMHO the characters are typically overdesigned and overanimated, but I tell you my jaw hit the floor when I saw it. Here is the answer to why Disney hasn't (and now won't ever) release Laputa. They've already cannibalized it to make Atlantis. I wonder if Studio Ghibli got any compensation for this. Probably not, but feelings can't be too badly hurt, because I see over at Nausicaa.net that the Rat has signed on to distribute Spirited Away, possibly July 2002, and they've signed John Lassetter to supervise the US version - the VIP treatment all the way. Dammit though, I wanted to see Mark Hamill as Muska!

This may create alot of arguments towards me, but I believe that Atlantis is the best animated film that Disney has done to date. By taking the risk of moving away from musical format and choosing a more sci-fi/action soundtrack, Disney has created a masterpiece. The work is highly reflected in the visual quality. Although computer animation has overwhelmed the modern era, it is still and will always be traditional animation that will look the best. Atlantis melds both together seemlessly. Simply magnificent.

I really enjoyed this movie , it was loads of fun to watch. The animation in this film rivals that of Titan A.E. and Final Fantasy. Disney has come of age with this movie. A must see for any animation buff.
