THis is a fabulous rarity -- the Fleischers lend a hand to Soglows cryptic monarch The Little King and affords him a night on the town with the most fetching gal in toonland, Betty Boop. THe King grows bored with his wife's company at the opera and opts instead for a local burlesque house where he buys out the pretzel vendor, distributing free treats to everyone and eventually skipping a jumprope with Betty on stage. Unlike some other animated treatments of Soglow's character, this 'toon captures his mischievous but good-natured joie-de-vivre. The imagery and the soundtrack here -- robust music and great comic voices, are superb.

This cartoon ties Otto Soglow's wonderful "Little King" which he drew from 1934 to 1975 (the year of his death) with the wonderfully antic Betty. The Little King was a wonderfully visual strip which used words sparingly. The character translates well onto the big screen. One of my favorite Betty Boop cartoons and in my top 100 cartoons of all time. The ending is very cute.
