These mini-operas are among the early classics in the Popeye series.
This was about the first to show Popeye as a sensitive, vulnerable person.

I thought this was one of Fleischer Studios better cartoons. I liked the song "Man on the Flying Trapeze, and I thiught that Bluto's vpice added a nice counter-point to Popeye's voice. You could tell right from the start though that sooner or later Popey was going to have to fight for the one he loved. I also thought that it was an interesting way to sneak in and see the circus.
The only part that I did't like was when Popeye was knocking the villian from trapeze to trapeze, the animation became very poor and the figures were stick like, almost like it was the original pencil drawings.
EVEN SO, I still rate it 4 cans of spinach.
