Chaos in Crystal

By
Warden Cyrus Meece of Megakat Maximum Security Prison reveals to Mayor Manx and Callie that the prison is funded by diamonds mined from the nearby mountain range. He has comissioned freelance inventor Dr. Leiter Greenbox to create a prototype mining device (dubbed the "Gemkat 6000") to speed up gem production. Convict Rex Shard is chosen to operate the device in its test run, but an accident occurs, and the machine soemhow turns Shard into a "crystal colussus" with the ability to turn anything he touches into diamond. The SWAT Kats of course arrive to stop the revenge-driven Shard's diabolical plan to "crystallize" the whole world, but how can they destroy something made of an unbreakable mineral? A wonderful episode, and the first of the series not to feature a "major" villain (Dark Kat, Dr. Viper etc.). Shard's powers are very unique, and while the animation isn't all that great (as is the case with most first season episodes), the overall episode is just fantastic. it even contains a bit of poetic justice, when the greedy Warden Meece is turned to crystal by Shard, and later knocked onto the floor and smashed. In short, a must see!
