Shifting to a later Scooby for the next coverage we are now looking at To All The Ghouls I've Loved Before.

Looking back a the episode it's still highly memorable. I remember lots of lines exactly as it set us up for this new Scooby series to go in a pretty new direction for the series. Lots of great scenes and an actual plot arch set up (even though it won't get resolved) which is quite different for Scooby Doo.

We see the plot now having to do with the Scooby Gang releasing demons from a demon chest. Although this series will use ghost/ghoul/demon all as synonyms. We get some memorable scenes with a whole town full of werewolves and some other fun stuff, this is very much an origin episode to start the new series direction.

The set up with our current Scooby gang of Scooby Doo, Shaggy, Daphne and Scrappy Doo getting into a plane crash allows us to meet some new characters. Shaggy and Daphne get some changes to their wardrobe and we meet our new characters in Flim Flam, Vincent Van Ghoul, Bogel and Weerd, and all are pretty great in this first episode to the new series. We also get out first look at the demon chest but the actual demons won't be seen till later episodes.

When this series finally got it's day on dvd, i was very happy to pick it up and where better to start than with the first episode. This episode has high rewatchability, while even though it is just an origin show to set up the rest, it offers lots of great moments and scenes worth rewatching over and over.

If i have to bestow a rating on this episode i give it a 10/10 A

How many times can you pun on the word "Ghoul"?

At last Scooby Doo meets real ghosts (or rather, demons). But the mix of Scooby humour, real demons, two goofy ghosts, tiresome street kid Flim Flam and a rather overdrawn likeness of Vincent Price does not stir together well, and the wooden animation flattens out any real tension. (When the villagers start to turn into werewolves they just stand there clawing the air until Shaggy and Scooby have finished quaking with fear and found a way out - no attempt to heighten the sense of threat even by cuting to point-of-view close-ups: everyone just stands there.)
Weird geography, too: Scooby and pals crash their plane in the Himalayas, and find a Tibetan-style temple - but the nearby village, cursed with lycanthropy, is straight out of Hollywood's version of Transylvania. The Carpathian Mountains (home of Dracula) and the Himalayas are 3000 miles apart!

Did they edit two episodes into one and hope no-one would notice?
