A Christmas Carol 1969 Animated 10 out of 5 stars

Reviewed by: mdippy78, December 01, 2007

This animated version of a Christmas Carol probably stands out in the minds of most of us who were kids in the 70's. The director is Zoran Janjic, the writer, Michael Robinson, and the producer is Walter J. Hucker. The voice of Ebenezer Scrooge was provided by Australian actor, Ron Haddrick.
While many would claim that the animation does not hold a candle to the 1971 Oscar winning, Chuck Jones animated version of a Christmas Carol, i would disagree. This version offers a charm and errieness to it that you truly focus on the story as well as the characters. This version reflects the essence of Christmas, especially for the late 60's and early 70's. Or maybe it's just a childhood thing for me.
This version has been released at least 3 times i know of on video. The first was by Rhino in 1989. The second by Bridgestone Multimedia. The third was by Diamond Entertainment Corporation out of Claifornia around 1994. Copies of this movie are no longer made and are difficult to find. Although i have had some luck lately through ebay and a couple of other sources. Hopefully, it will not become a "lost classic". For those of you who remember this classic and are interested, check your local TV listings for December. Especially check your "On Demand." It is still shown in certain parts of the country and with todays technology, it shouldn't be a problem to set your DVR's. Hopefully, someone will remaster it and put it on DVD soon. Anyone listening?
